A Silver Award from EcoVadis

EcoVadis’ 2023 reassessment of Cromwell saw the business upgraded to the Silver Award rating. We’re delighted to have been recognised for our hard work and commitment towards sustainability.

EcoVadis assesses key areas of the business as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility – environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Our score improved by 19 points which moved us to the silver award.


Our strengths, recognised by the judges, are outlined here:

  • External partnerships or collection programs established to reuse and recycle major waste streams – in branches we have reduced waste with new skips, bin sizes and frequency.
  • Internal sorting and disposal of waste according to waste streams – in the UK 99.9% of our waste is non-landfill.
  • Reduction of energy consumption of lighting systems – our energy provider only supplies green sourced energy.
  • Reduction of carbon emissions in logistics or optimisation of fleet efficiency – we now boast a fleet of electric vans, and our Plymouth branch is recognised for its excellent energy efficiency.
  • Provision of eco-friendly packaging materials – we use 100% recyclable packing
  • Regular carbon footprint reporting for our estate.
  • Family Friendly Programs have been implemented (e.g. parental or carers leave, childcare services or allowances) along with a reward and flexible benefits scheme for our people.
  • Cromwell is ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 certified.
  • Our people undertake awareness training regarding diversity, discrimination, and harassment.
  • Two-way communication system in place to facilitate the employee voice regarding working conditions with an annual engagement survey and quarterly all-staff meetings known as ‘Town Halls’.
  • Whistleblower procedure for stakeholders to report information security concerns.
  • Awareness training to prevent information security breaches.
