ISCAR has developed a new insert designated PENTACUT, with 5 cutting edges, for multifunction applications including grooving, parting, recessing and chamfering. This cost effective insert is designed to perform shallow grooving operations and parting of small solid bars up to 12.5 mm in diameter. Each cutting edge on the pentagonal shaped insert is equipped with a unique J-type positive chipformer that provides excellent chip control in grooving, parting and recessing (light side turning) applications.

Grade: IC908.
A hard, fine grain substrate with excellent chipping resistance, combined with a new TiAlN PVD coating. Provides high wear and oxidation resistance. Recommended for a very wide range of materials applications and machining conditions.

Part of the PENTACUT™ parting and grooving line from Iscar®, the 34N insert is ideal for use on a range of hard materials. With 5 cutting edges this insert delivers excellent results on tougher projects, which include grooving, parting, recessing, and chamfering. 

Each cutting edge is equipped with a single cavity with a negative land and shoulders to give excellent chip control in all applications.

First choice for soft materials, parting of tubes, small diameters and thin-walled parts. Cutting edge with positive rake. General applications on low carbon steel, alloy steel, austinitic stainless steel. Low-to-medium feed. 

IC808 Grade Description: 
A tough submicron substrate improved  TiAIN PVD coated grade for better chip flow. Designed for machining heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys and carbon steel at medium to high cutting speeds, interrupted cut and unfavourable conditions. Excellent notch wear and built-up edge resistance.

* Very rigid clamping in a tangentially oriented pocket.
* Enables machining at very high feed rates and provides excellent straightness and surface finish.
* Recommended for parting large diameter parts and for interrupted cuts.
* Offers a free, unobstructed chip flow, since there is no upper jaw as in the other clamping systems (very important in deep grooving and parting applications.
* The combination of tangential clamping and free chip flow results in improved tool and insert life time.
* Provides a solution to the problem of inserts being pulled out during retraction.

The TAG inserts are available with the familiar J- and C-Type chipformers, with neutral and angular frontal cutting edges. (P20-P50/M20-M40/K15-K40/ S15-S40) PVD TiAlN coated tough grade followed by a special SUMO TEC surface treatment. Suitable for milling stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. Recommended for interrupted cut and heavy operations.
