Tweezers

Cromwell stock a wide range of tweezers from various brands including Knipex® and our own brand Kennedy® and Kennedy Pro®, ensuring that you always have a set for small, detailed work.

What are tweezers?

Tweezers are small gripping hand tools designed for small, fine and detailed working. They are commonly used to grasp small objects that would otherwise be too fiddly or small to be held with fingers. They come in various types for varying applicational uses and feature two sets of arms. They are typically made from durable materials for long lasting performance and precise grip, with handles often made from stainless steel for strength, plastic for a lighter feel and rubber for added comfort and improved grip.

Why tweezers?

Tweezers provide precise control when working with small components, such as those in electronic circuitry and are often equipped with safety features like ESD-safe coatings to prevent static discharge, VDE insulation to guard against electrical hazards, and non-sparking materials for safe use in flammable environments.

Types of tweezers

There are several types of tweezers available, each suited to specific tasks:
Positioning Tweezers  -   Specifically designed for accurately positioning small parts, crucial in mechanical assemblies and electronics
Universal Tweezers  -    Versatile tweezers suitable for a wide range of tasks and ideal for general use
Straight Tweezers  -    Highly versatile design, commonly used for general purposes
Bent Nose Tweezers  -    Ideal for gripping small objects from difficult angles, commonly used in electronics and jewellery
Needle Nose Tweezers  -    Ideal for detailed and delicate work, such as removing splinters or handling tiny electronic components
Precision Tweezers  -    Designed for tasks that require high accuracy
Flat Blade Tweezers  -    Best for handling fragile or flat objects without causing damage
Sharp Nose Tweezers  -    Sharp pointed tip for extreme precision, suitable for detailed work in electronics and medical procedures
Cross Pattern Tweezers  -    Unique gripping pattern for secure handling of small or slippery items, often used in laboratory work or electronics
Flat Tweezers  -    Ideal for picking up flat objects or components. They provide a wide grip surface for better control
Radio Tweezers  -    Specialised for use in radio and other electronic equipment, there design allows for precision in tight spaces.

Considerations when choosing tweezers

ESD safety - Working with electronics can be a hazard, in these cases using a metal tool would increase the risk of conductivity and could result in a shock. Using tweezers that are non magnetic and made from ESD safe materials like plastic, epoxy coated and carbon fibre, reduced the risk involved.
Type - Consideration of the type of tweezers is important as each type is designed for specific tasks, with options ranging from fine tipped tweezers for detailed work to flat broader tips for handling larger components to ensure optimal precision and performance across a variety of applications.
Size It is important to select the most suitable overall length as this directly affects comfort, control and accessibility.

FAQs

Can tweezers be sharpened?
Yes, tweezers can be sharpened especially if they're designed to cut and have dulled over time with use. You can use a simple piece of sandpaper for this task on metal tweezers.
